Safari Update
The Tropical Safari has reached Lockhart River on Cape York after more unpleasant weather enroute.
BXT had to do an instrument approach (rwy 12 RNAV) to get in and was buffeted by winds of up to 51 knots inflight.
Thankfully, the winds were much calmer - and almost directly in line with the runway when we broke through the clouds.
So far, we have had a great time meeting the local church people in Cairns, Cooktown, Hopevale and Coen.
Phil spoke at a men's meeting last night at Coen on the importance of answering the question that Jesus asked Peter in Mark 8, "Who do you say that I am?"
The CWCI ladies (Kay Brown and Julie Alexander) have been busy speaking to women's groups but had a slight diversion when they participated in an after-school kid's club at Coen. The children's ministry has been a long-term ministry of the AOG church there pioneered by Greg and Helen Shorten and now run by Graeme and Charmaine Bourke.
The SABER audio player continues to be a hit wherever Phil shows it off and more have been distributed on this trip. They are programmed with scripture material and music that would be appreciated in FNQ and Torres Strait - especially the recording of Mark's Gospel in YUMPLATOK (Torres Strait Creole).
There is a long way to go yet and many interesting places still to visit. This year the Safari will stop at Yorke Island for the first time while Phil has been the Flying Bibleman.
The whole team is looking forward to that! |
