Kriol Baibul dedicated at Katherine Christian Convention; May 2007
A crowd of almost 2,000 from all over Australia and overseas witnessed history when the First full Bible in an Australian Indigenous language was dedicated at the Katherine Christian Convention on Saturday, May 5.
Melbourne's Archbishop, Philip Freier, officiated at the dedication and spoke mostly in the Kriol language.
Senator Nigel Scullion read out a greeting from the Primes Minister, John Howard while local member, Fay Miller, spoke of her delight to receive a copy of the Kriol Bible.
Representatives from Bible Society in Australia were on hand to witness the event. BSiA's National Chairman, Rev'd Robert Wiebusch, prayed for the new Bible and received a copy on behalf of the Bible Society.
Phil Zamagias (the Flying BibleMan) was MC for the whole convention. "It was a great joy to be part of this historic occasion" said Phil. "Now Kriol-speaking people have access to the whole counsel of God and can use it to see transformation in their lives and their communities".
Messages of support also came from Buckingham Palace and the Governor General of Australia.
The Bible Society published the Kriol Bible after many years of collaborative effort between six major mission and church agencies. See www.kriol.info
